$6.0 Million

Built with input at all stages from the local residential community, this 4,180-m2 school occupies a tight site near the Toronto area lakeshore. The program components are organized into three simple blocks: daycare, academic component, and multi-purpose room. Between the childcare and academic tract is a covered outdoor play area, and between the academic tract and multi-purpose room is a large entry lobby open to the street at both ends (photo below right). Both this lobby and the second-floor resource centre at the heart of the school are lofty spaces with clearstory windows.
The project won an award of merit in the 1990 Association of School Building Officials International and was featured in an exhibition entitled "The Best of School Architecture," at the AIA headquarters in Washington, D.C.
Client: The Etobicoke Board of Education
