Description: This two storey school for 518 students is located on Brant Street in Burlington near the City Hall. The new school replaces one which existed on the site since 1948, but was too substandard and inefficient to be salvaged. Several challenges were overcome in the design and construction of this new replacement school: the extremely tight budget which resulted from shortage of Ministry funding was met without sacrificing quality or content; minor variances for parking off site and setbacks on three sides were approved; and existing steep slope entering the site was alleviated; the combined School and adjacent Church sites were improved by new vehicular access and parking; demolition and other joint site improvement costs were required to be part of the Funded project cost, and the Board's current guidelines and standards were successfully implemented. The result is a compact, highly efficient economical, and attractive school in an urban setting.
